Grandma would fix grandpa a thermos of black tea to take to work and then she would fix herself a cup of tea. Their rule was I had to wait until I was ten years old before I could have a cup of tea. I would sneak a sip of tea when no one was in the room – which always made the tea taste even better. Our family practice and love for tea as far as I can remember has always been an integral part of our lives in good or bad times.
One evening we were sitting around the kitchen table. I had lost my job two years prior due to restructuring. My daughter made the suggestion that we should start a tea company. Her rationale was I had knowledge of tea and a business background.
This was hard to debate especially when we were all drinking tea at the table.
As with many great traditions, ours began generations ago. Believing in the promise of the America dream, my grandparents emigrated from England. Letters from home contained small shipments of loose leaf tea so, no holiday, family gathering, Saturday talks about the old country or ordinary day would begin or end without a good cup of tea.
Our American Dream continues – our goal at Iceni Tea is to introduce and provide premium quality loose leaf teas and accessories so that others may be inspired to start their own dreams, memories and traditions.
